Progress Badge Scheme January 2011

Archery GB Progress Awards

The Newly Up marketed Archery GB Progress Awards are designed to provide beginners and younger archers with awards for developing their archery skills.   The junior age groups are aligned with 5 educational key stages.  The scheme can also be used as an adult beginner incentive.

The scheme is open to all archers and is operated by archery clubs or by schools, youth groups and similar who practice target archery.  There is no requirement for the recipients to be members of Archery GB, although many will be.
Full details can be obtained from the Archery GB website.

The County Junior Development Squad uses this process as part of their training days and badges at all levels from white to red have been achieved. All bow types are included and individuals can work towards achieving higher level awards as their archery improves. The process for ordering the badges also works effectively.

The system is also working well in after school clubs within Gloucestershire, where it is a hit with both the school teaching staff and the archers. There are also a number of clubs using the system for their junior evenings and they fit well into club target day events.

Whilst there are around 20 junior archers in the county that have achieved red awards, the Gold Standard can only be achieved outdoors, those achieving this standard will be added to a role of honour to be published by Archery GB, as of 1st February no junior archers in the County have achieved Gold. As the weather improves watch this space!
